22 years ago I was born on Vancouver Island, BC and I love my home country of Canada very much. I’ve heard from people around the world that we here in BC are known for 2 specific things: being hippies and driving fast. When I first heard this I laughed, but the more I thought about it the more I realized it’s actually a fairly accurate assessment.
There are a lot of “hippies” here and I think that has contributed a lot to the way my personality and soul have developed. The very first school I attended was very small and had a wonderful, hippie-esque energy. At the beginning of our lessons we were taught how to meditate and everyday thereafter we were expected to meditate for an amount of minutes equal to the amount of years we’d been alive. 5 year olds were to meditate for 5 minutes, 6 year olds for 6 and so on. When I was a small child I don’t think I appreciated what they were attempting to teach us - a way to stay healthy, happy and calm - but now that I’m older and I’ve had the opportunity to do my own research, I’ve come to the conclusion that I am very lucky to have had that experience. I truly believe that being in that school has affected my whole life and the way I take care of myself and my emotional health. I wouldn’t say I am a hippy; I have too many interests to be classified as one thing or the other. I prefer to think of myself as something completely unique and beautiful in my own way which no label could ever really describe. This is part of the reason I am so supportive of free speech and self-expression; if I did not have the freedom to be everything that I am, I think that I would explode. There’s just so much inside me; emotions; dreams; questions; ideas; interests; that if I didn’t have the option of letting it out somehow, I would simply explode and that would be the end of me. This is why I am thankful to live in Canada, where people are still able to express themselves. If ever there comes a day when freedom and expression are completely wiped out here in Canada, I’ll either need to find a new place to live, or there will be a very large mess for someone to clean up after I spontaneously combust. What else is there to be said about me? Well, there’s a lot to be said about everyone out there and I don’t believe you can really fit a complete bio of anyone in a small section of writing such as this. However, I can say this much: if ever there was a way to let the world know precisely who you are, a blog like this one would be it. |
